Coaches' Meeting 2010-2011

NSML Coaches Meeting Minutes – May 12, 2011


  1. Membership
    1. Elgin, Glenbard East and St. Ignatius are withdrawing from the league. Leyden and South Elgin have accepted invitations to join the league. We are waiting to see if UIC College Prep will join us.
    2. Divisions – as posted on the handout.
    3. Coaches are asked to update their school’s information on the web site.
  2. Schedule
    1. The dates for 2011-2012 are 10/5/11, 10/26/11, 12/8/11, 2/2/12, 2/29/12.
    2. The conflict form for hosting and judging is now on the website. Coaches are asked to fill it out as soon as possible. The hosting/judging responsibilities and the schedule of where schools go next year will hopefully be worked out sometime in June.
  3. Treasurer’s report
    1. No change in dues for 2011-2012.
    2. An additional stipend for typesetting the contests was approved by the board.
    3. Mail your school’s registration form and dues to Kevin Wiland by November 1, 2011.
  4. Topics for 2011-2012
    1. Written topics were on the handout and will soon be posted on the website. Coaches who would like to help determine future topics should attend the meeting each spring at Larkin High School. The possibility of having a particular topic follow a class of students for four years is being considered for the future.
    2. Oral topics were posted on the board at the meeting and will soon be posted on the website. Meet 4 is the ICTM regional and state topic, which is taxicab geometry.
  5. Old business
    1. The conference meet for 2011 was well-run at Evanston.
    2. Questions on the website/Wiki. The missing questions from earlier years will be scanned and posted on the website this summer. On the Wiki we will attempt to get questions arranged by topic.
  6. New business
    1. All tests will be typeset in 2011-2012.
    2. The appeals committee had a resignation, so Candice Sagliano from Lake Park High School is now on the committee.
    3. Coaches are asked to contact Steve Goodman for suggestions for any of the following:
      1. Vice president for the league.
      2. An assistant webmaster. The person doing this should have programming experience with Python.
      3. Question writers.
    4. Linda Nystrom from Willowbrook High School:
      1. Asked that anyone who has suggestions for the ICTM contest to please contact her.
      2. Asked coaches to let their middle schools know about the ICTM Middle School contest. Information about that is on the ICTM website.
    5. Beginning next year, all student names on the NSML website will be identified by their initials and school.
