Coaches' Meeting 2012-2013

NSML Coaches Meeting – May 15, 2013 at Maine South High School

  1. Schedule
    1. Dates for 2013-2014: 10/3/13, 11/14/13, 12/12/13, 2/5/14, 3/6/14
    2. Coaches should be watching their email and the NSML web site for entering any conflicts about hosting.
  2. Treasurer’s report
    Dues will remain the same for 2013-2014.
  3. Topics for 2013-2014
    Written topics were presented and handed out to the coaches.
    Oral topics are still being finalized and will be announced in the near future on the web site.
  4. Personnel
    1. The new ribbon coordinator, Nadja Aquino was introduced to the coaches.
    2. One of our question writers is stepping down. A potential replacement has been found, but additional names are always needed.
    3. An assistant webmaster is needed. Anyone interested in doing this should contact Steve Goodman.
    4. A vice president for the league is needed. Anyone interested in doing this should contact Steve Goodman.
    5. The all conference committee needs a new member, and will need another one in a year from now. Anyone interested in doing this should contact Steve Goodman.
  5. Membership
    1. Leyden High School is withdrawing from the league.
    2. Loyola Academy is rejoining the league.
    3. If room can be found at Evanston for the conference meet, a 56th school will be brought into the league.
    4. Attendance to meets is important for the students and a necessary part of being an active member of the league. If a school misses meets, the board reserves the right to remove the school from the league.
  6. New business
    1. The requirement for the Benson award is being changed to students being an active participant rather than requiring that they have participated in at least three meets per year.
    2. The Benson award is intended for students who are excited and passionate about mathematics.
    3. Let Steve Goodman know if you are interested in helping out with reading applications for this award.
  7. Other business
    1. Put special requests about hosting on the conflict form on the web site.
    2. The dues sheet for 2013-2014 will be posted on the web site soon.
    3. Orals topics for 2013-2014 will be posted on the web site soon.
    4. An exploration of some type of team contest will be undertaken this next year, with the possibility that it may be implemented in the 2014-2015 year. Coaches interested in working on this should send their ideas to Steve Goodman.
